Friends -

Chelsea, Massachusetts is in a crisis. It is the coronavirus epicenter of our Commonwealth.

I've joined leaders in this community for multiple livestreams about what's happening on the ground and to shine a spotlight on the injustice taking place.

According to the latest numbers, the statewide rate of infection is about 488 cases per 100,000 residents. In Chelsea, the rate of infection is nearly four times that -- 1,890 cases per 100,000 residents.

This disproportionate impact is a result of decades of systemic racism and environmental injustices.

Chelsea is a largely immigrant city full of frontline, essential workers, undocumented families, and non-English speakers.

They need our help. The community has stepped up to help meet the needs of one another, but they cannot do it alone. Today, I'm hoping you can pitch in to support them as well.

If you can, please consider splitting a donation between the Chelsea Collaborative and the One Chelsea Fund. Both of these organizations are doing important work to help our friends and neighbors weather this crisis.

The Chelsea Collaborative is on the frontlines providing food and information directly to immigrant families in need, and the One Chelsea Fund is an initiative of the United Way of Massachusetts Bay and Merrimack Valley with community partners to provide direct cash assistance in the form of $250 checks to help families cover basic needs -- like rent, food, and medicine.

Thank you for all you are doing to support our community in this crisis. Stay safe, and we will get through this together.
