Indivisibles,

To quote our Co-Executive Director Ezra Levin from his Saturday night email:

“The violent attack at Trump’s rally today -- like any politically motivated violent attack -- is morally abhorrent at all levels. At an individual level, it is wrong. At a societal level, it shakes the foundations of our democratic system that depends on voting, not violence, to settle disputes. There is simply no place for political violence in a democracy.”

We stand by these words. And we remind all Indivisibles across the country that we, as an organization, stand opposed to violence and are actively working toward the day when the threat of mass shootings is no more.

As the authorities continue to uncover more information about the violence at Trump’s rally on Saturday, it’s important to remember that this terrible incident cannot derail us from our mission in this election. Remember:

  1. Trump has not won
  2. The race isn’t over
  3. The fight for the future of our democracy continues

There are still four months until Election Day, and that means we have four months to pull out all of the stops to prevent the rise of fascism -- because that is still what we are up against.

Just this morning, Trump’s hand-picked appointee Judge Aileen Cannon dismissed the entire classified documents case against him in a nakedly partisan ruling from an inexperienced judge who owes her career to Trump. An appeal will surely be coming, which could result in the second time Judge Cannon’s broad misapplication of precedent is overturned by her own Republican-appointed colleagues.

Just a short while ago, J.D. Vance was announced as Trump's VP pick. Vance’s extreme reaction to the violence at Trump’s rally this weekend was so carelessly inflammatory that members of his own party think it should be disqualifying for his vice presidency.

Cannon’s ruling and the selection of Vance are clear reminders of the kind of government Trump is seeking to build if reelected. It will be an existential threat to our democracy, and a direct threat to the lives of a majority of Americans including women, people of color, LGBTQ+ Americans, and people with disabilities.

The Republican National Convention has started, and Republicans are trying to manufacture momentum toward November. It is vital that we do everything in our power to not only match them, but surpass their work and organize them into obscurity.

With that, here are your weekly to-dos:

 Your 5 weekly to-dos

  1. Register for our National Phonebank for Raquel Terán happening this Wednesday, July 17 at 9:30pm ET/6:30pm PT. To stop the MAGA agenda, we have to do more than just defeat Trump and secure a Democratic trifecta -- we need to ensure the Democrats we send to Congress will fight to enact transformative policies to reform our democracy and enshrine reproductive freedoms, not bow to special interests and corporate lobbyists. Primary elections are where we get to exercise the most influence over the shape and priorities of the Democratic Party, and if we’re successful, put forth the strongest candidates possible. Help us elect a true fighter for justice and equality by joining our national phonebank into AZ-03 next Wednesday where we’ll be getting Arizonans excited about Raquel Terán’s incredible primary campaign.
  2. Register for our virtual letter writing event with Vote Forward on Wednesday, July 24 at 8pm ET/5pm PT. We’re joining with Vote Forward on The Big Send -- an effort to write 10 million letters to voters this year. Join for a quick training on how to craft effective, personal messages; then we’ll hop right to writing letters to voters in key House races across the country. Make an impact without leaving the comfort of your home.
  3. Sign up to phonebank, textbank, or write to voters with our new Majority Over MAGA: State to State resource. Neighbor2Neighbor (see below) may only be available in our target districts, but it’s going to take everyone coming together to drive wins in November. This State to State page will be our home for all of the other resources and strategies that will power us to a true Democratic trifecta that will codify reproductive freedoms and enact democracy reforms. Check this page to learn about phonebanks, textbanks, postcards, reimbursements, and more that will be the backbone of our 2024 election program.
  4. Neighbor2Neighbor is open!!!! Check and see if it’s available in your area, and help get out the vote. We have opened our highly effective, community conversation program -- Neighbor2Neighbor. If you want to have the biggest impact on voter turnout, this is the most effective way we’ve found to mobilize community members (our numbers prove it). Check and see if Neighbor2Neighbor is available in your area and, if it is, sign up today.
  5. Review our resource on safety and deescalation strategies. We know that the uncertainty that follows events like Saturday's shooting leads to worry about security and safety for yourself and fellow activists in your community. Your safety remains our highest priority, and we've prepared this resource to address these serious concerns. Use this guide to help you feel prepared to deescalate tense situations and keep yourself, and your fellow activists, safe as we continue to work toward a brighter tomorrow.

P.S. If you've completed your weekly to-do's and are looking for more ways to support this movement, consider making a donation today. Your contribution will help keep our call pages up and running, fund the tools we use to mobilize volunteers, and continue all the work we're doing this year.

Demand Your Members of Congress Say No To Netanyahu

**Content Warning: Talk about the current humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Jump to the line break if you need to avoid this topic.**

No to Netanyahu: Netanyahu shouldn't have been invited to address Congress. Members of Congress shouldn't attend.

The Biden administration announced on Friday that a ceasefire framework had been reached between Israel and Hamas. This was not a new development, but a doubling down on his announcement from May in an attempt to continue to exert soft pressure to get this deal done.

It didn’t work.

Over the weekend, Netanyahu’s military, once again, launched a strike on a designated “safe zone” killing at least 90 Palestinians and injuring at least 300 more.

That brings the death toll in Gaza to over 39,000 officially, with The Lancet conservatively estimating that the true toll could be as much as 186,000 or more.

Soft pressure is not working. It’s time the United States used every bit of our considerable influence to bring home the remaining hostages and end this conflict. Stop the bombing, now.

Benjamin Netanyahu speaks to Congress next Wednesday, July 24. As Netanyahu continues to undermine Biden’s goal of a peace deal, it is not acceptable for our elected officials to politely sit in front of him as a captive audience to his political maneuvering. They must say No to Netanyahu, skip his congressional address, and use the leverage of withholding offensive weaponry to secure the return of the hostages, achieve a ceasefire, and allow the administration of humanitarian aid.

Biden thinks a deal is close, let’s push them over the finish line. Call your senator now.
