John, as a combat veteran who has seen the impact of political violence, I unequivocally condemn Saturday's violence against former president Donald Trump.

I call for those responsible to be held accountable swiftly.

I wish for a full recovery for the two people who were critically injured. And my sympathies go out to the loved ones of Corey Comperatore – the former fire chief who was killed while protecting his family.

Violence is never the answer.
