John,

Each day since this crisis began, I've woken up with two questions on my mind: What can I do to keep New Mexicans safe? And how many hours can I possibly work?

Together with the hardworking individuals in my administration, I'm doing everything I can to protect New Mexico communities from the spread of COVID-19. We're working nonstop on important efforts like supplying our health care workers and first responders with much needed personal protection equipment, increasing our testing capacity, disseminating vital public health information and helping folks navigate the resources they desperately need.

But I'm just one small piece in the fight against this pandemic. The single most important thing we can do to stop the virus in New Mexico - staying home - depends on each person doing his or her own part. Collective action is the way through to the other side - and we must never lose sight of the fact that we are in this fight together.

I'm so grateful to New Mexicans who are doing the best they can to stay home, wash their hands and help to flatten the curve in New Mexico. My heart goes out to all of the front-line workers keeping our communities healthy, safe and fed. Thank you for everything you do for each and every one of us.

Still, I know it isn't easy. In a matter of just a few weeks, lives have been upended and plans for the future have been erased. We're mourning losses big and small: college graduations, steady jobs - the sense of normalcy that comes from dropping your child off at school every morning.

This has been tough for everyone. Especially those who've lost a loved one. I hold a special place in my heart grieving every New Mexican we've lost to this devastating virus. So I'm urging the people of our great state to take care of themselves and take care of one another during this challenging time.

If you think you may be infected with the coronavirus, go to our Department of Health page to learn more about testing and what you should do to get help.

When this is all over, I can't wait to hit the ground running on all our big dreams and plans. But in the meantime, I'm fighting this virus and its impact on all of us as hard as I can for you, your family and all the people who make New Mexico the greatest state in our country.

All the best to you and yours,

Michelle Lujan Grisham
