John, violence of any kind has no place in our democracy, and I condemn this weekend's horrific attack on former President Trump in the strongest possible terms.

This is a sobering reminder of what can happen after years of hyperpartisanship and divisiveness. We cannot accept this as our status quo.

What we need now is unity. We need Democrats, Republicans, Independents – everyone in our country – to come together and agree: This is not who we are. There is no room for violence in our democracy and in our politics. America is better than this.

I've said this many times, but it feels especially important to remember now: As Texans and Americans, we are more alike than we are different. There is more that unites us than divides us.

Let us remember this moving forward. Let us encourage healthy, peaceful discourse and treat every person with the respect they deserve. Let us work to preserve the future of our democracy, together.

Thank you,

Colin Allred
