Let me be very clear: Political violence is never acceptable.

All of us at EMILYs List are thinking of everyone affected by this weekend's awful events, and hoping for the full recovery of those injured.

What happened in Pennsylvania over the weekend was a terrible and scary moment for our country, which was founded on the principle of freedom to express differing opinions without fear of violence.

This year, perhaps more than ever, there are big differences between political candidates and parties and their visions for our country. The candidates who win and their agendas will have a major impact on all of us, especially when it comes to abortion rights and our most fundamental freedoms. EMILYs List will continue to highlight the differences between our parties and their positions. (As will Republicans at their national convention this week in Milwaukee.) We must be able to stand for what we believe in, highlight the stakes for voters, and take our argument to the ballot box without the threat of political violence.
