Advancing Justice Affiliation Announces Asian Law Caucus Departure

** Advancing Justice Affiliation Shares News About its Future Plans Amid ALC Departure
------------------------------------------------------------

Dear Friends,

Since 2013, five civil rights nonprofit organizations have operated together in partnership as the Asian Americans Advancing Justice affiliation:

Asian Americans Advancing Justice – AAJC

Asian Americans Advancing Justice – Atlanta

Asian Americans Advancing Justice – Asian Law Caucus (ALC)

Asian Americans Advancing Justice – Chicago

Asian Americans Advancing Justice Southern California (AJSOCAL)

Though independently led, operated, and funded, we share a common mission to promote a fair and equitable society for all by working for civil and human rights that empower Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, Pacific Islanders, and other underserved communities. Our collaborative initiatives focus on immigration, voting rights, and anti-Asian racism.

This affiliation was inspired by a shared recognition of the need to bring more funding and visibility to the needs of AANHPI communities across the country, and a belief that we are strongest when we work together. This has borne true. We’ve achieved a lot together over the last decade and counting, from co-leading the Value Our Families campaign to fight for family reunification in immigration, to distributing nearly $3M to AAPI organizations in 2021 following the Atlanta spa shootings. We also launched the Stand Against Hatred website in 2017 to collect reports of hate incidents across the country.

As valued members of our community, we are committed to sharing transparently an upcoming change in our partnership. Asian Law Caucus will drop Advancing Justice from its name and is withdrawing from the Asian Americans Advancing Justice Affiliation to focus their resources and efforts indifferent ways.

We are appreciative of ALC’s partnership over the years, continue to support their incredible work, and look forward to future opportunities to collaborate. We wish ALC the best as they embark on this journey and look forward to celebrating their ongoing success.

Our affiliation partnerships among Advancing Justice - AAJC, AJSOCAL, Advancing Justice - Atlanta, Advancing Justice - Chicago, remain strong with a network of more than 1,000 community-based organizations who are dedicated to protecting, empowering, and progressing the civil rights of our communities.

We are here to answer any questions you may have. Thank you for your continued support of each of our organizations and the Asian Americans Advancing Justice affiliation.

Sincerely,

John C. Yang, President and Executive Director
