Launch of USAID’s Democracy, Human Rights, and Governance Policy [[link removed]]

Join the Wilson Center and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) virtually to celebrate the release of USAID’s new Democracy, Human Rights, and Governance (DRG) Policy on Thursday, July 18, at 1 p.m. EDT.
The DRG Policy reaffirms and renews USAID’s steadfast commitment to democratic governance and human rights by outlining approaches for enhancing the effectiveness of the United States’ support for democratic development. It will serve as a foundation for Agency-wide efforts to continue USAID’s role as a global leader in promoting DRG.
This event will showcase how USAID and its partners are addressing new and emerging threats to democratic development. This includes our collective efforts to counter corruption, malign influence, manipulation of elections, information manipulation, attacks on reformers and democracy champions, and more.

Aware of this reality, Iván Duque outlines in his latest book, Our Future , a roadmap for the countries of the region — with realistic, fundable, replicable, scalable, and sustainable strategies — to join efforts to enable short, medium, and long-term solutions.

Sudan at a Crossroads: Addressing the Largest Internal Displacement Crisis in the World [[link removed]]Thursday, July 18 // 10:00 am–11:30 am (ET)
Years of protracted crisis in Sudan led to a full-scale civil war on April 15, 2023, when fierce fighting broke out between the Sudan Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces. This resulted in the largest internal displacement in the world today, according to UN data, creating more than 11 million IDPs and at least 2 million refugees crossing borders to neighboring countries. In honor of Nelson Mandela International Day, the Wilson Center's Refugee and Forced Displacement Initiative (RAFDI), in partnership with Islamic Relief USA (IRUSA), will host this event to inspire effective action. Speakers will discuss current efforts to address Sudanese displacement crisis, identify what gaps exist, and recommend what should be done to raise global awareness to inspire collective action.
