John —

The assassination attempt on former President Trump at his rally in
Pennsylvania was horrifying. Just horrifying. And it must be condemned by
all Americans. Unequivocally.

It is a day that will be etched in our memory and mark another terrible
milestone in the history of our country — when there was yet another
attempted assassination of a political leader.

The loss of life of a spectator at the rally, and the injury of others who
were merely exercising their right to hear from a presidential candidate,
compounds the tragedy.

There is no place for political violence in our democracy. Absolutely
none.

Without the swift action of law enforcement and the Secret Service, I fear
the attack could have been so much worse. We all thank them.

But we all have a role to play in making sure that this attack does not
result in more violence, that, as a nation, we step back from the abyss
and pledge to resolve our differences peacefully.

We must join together in condemning this horrific attack, in praying for
the innocent life lost and the grieving families, and in wishing a swift
recovery to those injured, including President Trump.

In this country, in our democracy, we deal with our differences by making
our voices heard at the ballot box. Never resorting to political violence.

In the coming days, I hope we can lower the temperature of political
discourse and rededicate ourselves to the peaceful competition of ideas.

Thanks,

Adam
