Los Angeles workers need RIGHT OF RECALL and WORKER RETENTION policies.

Friends,

The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors and Los Angeles City Council have shown great leadership in their efforts to protect Angelenos from the health and economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Los Angeles workers are doing their part to slow the curve by staying "Safer at Home," and they need a guarantee that their jobs will still be there when it is safe to go back to work.

Hotel and building services companies have laid off tens of thousands of workers in the past month, sometimes firing people who have worked there for decades with no severance.

Workers in these industries are overwhelmingly people of color, who are already economically and physically hit hardest by COVID-19.

Right of Recall and Worker Retention policies will guarantee laid-off workers that they will be rehired after the crisis, and be retained even if their place of employment changes ownership.
TAKE ACTION TODAY:
  1. Call and email your Los Angeles City Councilmember and urge them to pass strong Right of Recall and Worker Retention policies. L.A. City Council will be meeting virtually TOMORROW, April 22nd at 10:00 am to discuss emergency measures. See call script below and find your council member here.

  2. Submit an electronic public comment. To submit a public comment in support of Right of Recall and Worker Retention policies, visit the public comment portal and enter 20-0147-S15 in the Council File Number field. Further instructions on submitting public comment can be found here.

  3. Sign the petition urging L.A. County to adopt strong worker protections, including: Right of Recall and Worker Retention policies, expanded paid sick leave, and economic relief for immigrants.
