John --
Since the beginning of the coronavirus outbreak, we have been demanding answers and accountability. We have been vocal in our calls for information and action and have continued to stand behind the Black leaders calling for concrete solutions.
For weeks, we have continued to speak out about the lack of racial data on coronavirus -- and yet, we still don’t have the data we need. And we still aren’t getting the protections we deserve.
So, Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation Managing Director Kailee Scales published an opinion piece calling on every state and municipality to collect and release demographic data. She’s also demanding the government expand policies and relief measures to help our most vulnerable.
Read her opinion piece in Ozy, and share it on social media to amplify our message and call on our government to protect us now.
This virus is disproportionately infecting and killing us -- and we know why: Everything from structural racism to environmental injustice to housing inequality has put us at a higher risk.
Historically, pandemics have always hit our community the hardest. And we will continue to be hit the hardest -- unless our government listens to our demands and steps up to correct health inequities.
If our leaders will not step up and protect us, we need to fight even harder to protect ourselves.
We know why we are in this situation -- let’s make sure they know why, too.
Read Kailee’s piece right now, and share it with friends and family to spread awareness of the health inequities we face and the solutions that can help keep us safe.
Thank you for being in this fight with us,
Black Lives Matter Global Network
