“Strong, clear antitrust policy saves lives”
-- J.D. Scholten, Carroll Times Herald

John,

J.D. wrote an op-ed about how the lack of enforcement of antitrust laws in our health care industry is hurting our ability to save lives.

The consolidation of hospitals and health care companies has created fewer hospital beds, higher hospital bills, a lower quality of care, and fewer resources -- which especially hurts rural communities like ours.

Calculating the cost of care shouldn’t be a factor in whether or not someone gets the care they need, especially during a global crisis.

So if you agree with J.D. that we need to enforce antitrust laws, especially in the health care industry, add your name to our petition today >>

We need leaders in Congress like J.D. who will stand up to the big businesses and corporations that dominate our industries and our policies. He knows, you know, and we know how important enforcing these laws is.

As J.D. wrote in his op-ed,

“During this coronavirus crisis, uninsured Americans could face up to $75,000 in hospital bills, an exorbitant fee and even more outrageous considering that hospitals are charging whatever they can get away with because they have the monopoly power to do so. This fact holds true with all consolidated industries: when a few players own a large percentage of the market share, there’s little incentive to reduce costs or improve the quality. It’s also easy to either buy out smaller players or simply push them out of business altogether.”

If we hadn’t seen the merging of health care facilities, we would have more hospital beds available in Iowa. As the coronavirus spreads throughout our state, we are going to feel the impacts of consolidation on our treatment and care.

That’s why this is so important. We HAVE to enforce antitrust laws.

Join J.D. in stepping up and demanding action on antitrust enforcement. >> [link removed]

Thanks for taking action. Our voices are stronger when they speak out together.
