Special Olympics brings out the best in everyone. From empowering athletes to inspiring supporters, Special Olympics events bring people together to experience the joy of sports and the power of inclusion.ย

And we just feel so lucky! We have the most caring, encouraging, and uplifting supporters who champion Special Olympics athletes. These past few days we have read some inspiring messages of good luck, notes of inspiration and words of encouragement to athletes.

"Keep up the great work! The most important thing you can do is to keep working hard, meeting new friends, learning new skills and having so much fun! Weโ€™re all cheering you on!!" - Karen, Illinois

"Keep giving your best, stay positive, and most importantly, have fun!" - Ian, Hawaii

"You've got this!! Enjoy EVERY moment, all the new experiences, the fun of competing, making new and renewing old friendships, giving your best, staying positive and most importantly, having fun!!" - Cindy, Minnesota

"Look how far you have come this season! You have been so hardworking and all of those hours have definitely paid off. You got this! you are going to do an amazing job. Go rock it out there!" - Olivia, Wisconsin

Why does inclusion matter? Because for people with intellectual disabilities, itโ€™s the chance to feel accepted, often for the very first time. Similar to many of these athletes:

โ€œThey came to see MY games.โ€ Special Olympics Nebraska athlete Wyatt Spalding remembers about a time he felt included: when classmates without disabilities supported him and cheered him for the first time!

โ€œNow I thrive.โ€ Grace Payne, an athlete from New Zealand, overcame low expectations as a child with autism โ€” and says inclusion in education made all the difference!

โ€œI was invisible.โ€ Gilmour Borg of Special Olympics Malta knew the pain of being rejected โ€” and how inclusion in sports makes him โ€”and everyone โ€” better.

Letโ€™s make sure every single Special Olympics athlete knows how much they inspire us. Click here to sign our card and add a message of motivation to cheer athletes on in your community. It will mean so much to them!
