While we're demanding a response to this pandemic that puts people first, the far right is using this crisis to shift billions to corporations — and try and pay workers less.
Working Families Party

You can’t make this s*** up, John.

Over twenty million Americans have lost their jobs in the last month.

Republicans have already given trillions of dollars in bailouts to CEOs and the billionaire class.

But when it comes to the rest of us? They're trying to make it harder for working families to access even the meager help Congress has approved — and basically telling us all we can drop dead:

"If you tax people who work and you pay people who don’t work, you will get less people working. If you make it more unattractive to be unemployed, then there's an incentive to go look for another job faster." — Republican economist Art Laffer, 4/8/20

"Our state-based unemployment systems are being overrun by the volume of claims and the structure of the benefits under the CARES Act is actually incentivizing people to leave the workforce.” — Senator Lindsay Graham, 4/11/20

"Labor Secretary Eugene Scalia, who has expressed concerns about unemployment insurance being too generous, has used his department’s authority over new laws enacted by Congress to limit who qualifies for joblessness assistance and to make it easier for small businesses not to pay family leave benefits." — Washington Post, 4/21/20

This is what we're up against, John. While we're demanding a response to this pandemic that puts people first, the far right is using this crisis to shift billions to corporations — and try and pay workers less.

But it doesn't have to be like this.

With your help, we can elect hundreds of WFP candidates nationwide up and down the ballot this year — candidates who are already taking the fight directly to the billionaire class on behalf of working people, and who will lead that fight once we get them into office.

If you are able to, will you make a contribution right now to defeat anti-worker Republicans and elect hundreds of candidates who are accountable to working people, not billionaires?

More than 22 million Americans have filed for unemployment. And according to recent estimates, 44% of those filers — many of whom lost their jobs weeks ago — are still waiting on their first unemployment payment AND stimulus check.

That's a long time to go without income — especially during a pandemic.

We need to take action, and it starts with supporting the efforts of Working Families Party champions serving at every level of government to fight for relief bills and policies that focus on working people, not big corporations.

Contribute anything you can afford now to help us to power our organizing on behalf of Working Families Party candidates in the weeks and months ahead. If just one out of every three people reading this email donates today, we will be in a great position to win big in November.

In times as uncertain as these, your support means everything. Thank you.

Sincerely,

All of us at team WFP
