John,
To make this clear up front: We condemn political violence in any form .
This isn't an email that I've ever wanted to write. I vividly remember the hearing about the shooting of Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords along with her staff and constituents while at home that Saturday. I was working for a U.S. Senator at the time, and I recall the fear I felt for my friends, my colleagues, and my boss from that day forward, especially at future public events.
Despite whatever legitimate political or policy differences any of us might have with any candidate -- violence, like what happened yesterday, is never the answer .
Voter Action Project is going dark today out of respect for the victims of yesterday's terrible act. Our work to defend the right to vote will of course continue, but for now, please take the time to think about those lost yesterday, those clinging to life with critical injuries, and their family members.
Onward,
Mike

Integrity First Voter Action Project is dedicated to expanding ballot access and increasing voter participation across the country.
Since the Supreme Court gutted key provisions in the Voting Rights Act, extreme politicians have taken advantage to pass harsh laws that restrict access to the ballot box. These restrictions particularly affect disadvantaged communities and people of color. It’s our goal to bring awareness to these laws wherever they may crop up and organize voters to take action to ensure the right to vote is available to everyone in their states and communities.
