When I learned that Bob’s opponents were attacking him for his lawsuits against the Trump administration, I had to speak up.
As the state representative from the 40th District -- representing those who live off the lakes and mountains of Whatcom County, the rivers of the Skagit, and the islands of the Salish Sea -- and as a Washingtonian and a mother, I know just how critical Bob’s work defending our environment is to our shared future.
Bob is doing everything in his power to prevent powerful interests from illegally harming our environment, regardless of where the threats are coming from. Without his lawsuits against the Trump administration, the Environmental Protection Agency would have undermined the Clean Water Act in favor of corporate and government polluters. They would have let companies use neurotoxic pesticides that hurt children, pregnant women, and farmworkers. They would have gotten away with poisoning our water, our salmon, our farmlands, and our people.
We owe it to ourselves -- and our children -- to preserve local ecosystems, protect our incredible wildlife in the Salish Sea and across the state, and leave behind a world with clean air and water. Nothing could be more important, but Bob is under attack from multiple Republican opponents for doing just that -- defending the rights of our people, our state, and our tribes to protect our environment.
