Subject: Last night, I signed a bipartisan, commonsense budget

John,

Last night, I signed a bipartisan, commonsense budget that lowers costs for Pennsylvania families and makes historic investments in education, economic development, and public safety.

This historic budget will help ensure every Pennsylvanian has the freedom to chart their own course and the opportunity to succeed right here in our Commonwealth. And despite being the only Governor in the nation with a divided legislature, we accomplished this historic budget through hard work and compromise.

John, this budget is more than a bunch of numbers on a spreadsheet. It proves that we can still get sh*t done for the good people of Pennsylvania when we roll up our sleeves and get to work.

I’m proud of what we accomplished together, and I’m not going to stop there. If you’re committed to delivering real solutions to the problems Pennsylvanians face every day, I’d be so grateful to have your support as we continue to confront the big fights ahead.

When I talk to Pennsylvanians from all walks of life, folks basically want the same four things: They want good schools for their kids and grandkids. They want safe communities. They want economic opportunity. And they want the freedom to chart their own course.

John, I’m proud to say this bipartisan budget delivers on these priorities. Here in Pennsylvania, we’re moving past the partisan politics, having real conversations, and getting things done for hard-working folks in every corner of the Commonwealth.

In my first budget, we delivered historic investments to Pennsylvania public schools — and this year’s budget continues that progress. My budget, for the first time ever, will invest over $11 billion in public K-12 education. That’s a $1.1 billion increase from last year’s budget! And we’re not just delivering more funding. We’re fixing how we deliver that money to public schools across our Commonwealth. Under a new formula, we’re delivering the majority of this new funding to the districts that need it most.

By securing more resources for schools that have been chronically underfunded, we’re doing our part to make public education more equitable all across Pennsylvania.

Our budget also makes massive new investments in Pennsylvania’s economic development. We’re investing $20 million in our Main Streets Matter initiative, to support local main streets and downtowns all across the Commonwealth. We’re investing millions to help drive Pennsylvania’s tourism industry. And we’re making an unprecedented $500 million investment to create shovel ready sites for businesses that are ready to move and thrive in Pennsylvania.

These investments will expand economic opportunities in rural, urban, and suburban communities alike — ensuring that every Pennsylvanian will have the real freedom and real opportunity to succeed in their communities.

John, my budget is laser-focused on cutting costs for seniors and families across the Commonwealth. We created tax credits for parents trying to afford childcare or saving up to put their kid through college. And we cut taxes for folks paying interest on their student loans. This is in addition to tripling the Childcare Tax Credit for families earlier this year, and delivering Property Tax Rent Rebate checks to hundreds of thousands of seniors across the Commonwealth. With my budget, we’re putting more cash in Pennsylvanians’ pockets — because it’s what hard-working Pennsylvanians deserve.

Finally, we made historic investments to make our communities safer. We’re funding almost 400 more Pennsylvania State Police troopers to keep our communities safe, while making a 40% increase in violence intervention and prevention programs.

I know there’s still a lot of work to do for the good people of Pennsylvania — but I also know that, when we roll up our sleeves and work together, there’s nothing we can’t accomplish. This week, we took another huge step forward in our fight for real freedom and real opportunity, and I’d be honored to have your support as we keep pushing forward.
