Friends, amid all the noise in today’s media environment and the inevitable political ups and downs of a high-stakes election cycle, we can’t lose focus on our goal:
We can’t let my MAGA opponent win, and we can’t let the GOP take over the Senate.
Congress is a critical backstop in protecting our democracy and our nation’s values. We take a solemn oath to support and defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic. That includes defending against a potential President Trump who’s hell-bent on fighting against our very democracy — so we can’t afford to lose a Democratic majority that will stand up for what’s right.
Let’s be clear: I’m going to fight tooth and nail to make sure we don’t have a second Trump term. I’m not going to let him win Virginia’s 13 electoral votes.
But as a Senator up for re-election, my #1 goal has to be holding onto my seat and keeping our Democratic Senate majority. If we do that, we can tackle whatever comes our way.
