John,
The Republican majority in the U.S. House of Representatives just passed a horrifying voter suppression bill that would require proof of U.S. citizenship when registering to vote, which would disenfranchise many millions of Americans—including young people.
Our team has been training and supporting young people in Michigan’s 12th Congressional District to use their voices for change in their communities.
We recently came together as a community at a Yemeni cafe in Dearborn, where we heard from university students about their social movement work, discussed issues ranging from the climate crisis to the genocide in Gaza to immigrant rights, and talked about registering to vote.
Michigan has an important primary election coming up on August 6th for local, state, and federal positions, so we’re reminding local voters about ways to vote between now and Election Day.
And of course, the general election is coming up on November 5th, 2024. Because Michigan is a swing state, how people vote here will matter for defeating Trump in November.
I was one of the first members of Congress to demand accountability for Trump’s lawless and unconstitutional actions. I led successful impeachment efforts against him, and I’m not backing down.
Our team is continuing to knock on doors and engage with voters, offering resources as public servants and talking about what’s at stake in the presidential election and other down-ballot races. Together, we’re trying to build a government that works for all of us who call this country home, not just far-right billionaires.
Could you chip in to our campaign today as we ramp up our engagement with Michigan voters in this high-stakes election year?
In service,
Rashida
