John,

In times like these when so many of us are spending more time
indoors, it's easy to lose sight of what's happening
outside. That's why I'm grateful to be hearing from so
many members and supporters asking what they can do to help. Thank you
for supporting the mission of The Trust for Public Land despite the
uncertainties that we all face.

I'm writing with good news and bad news. The bad news is that
our sacred national monuments are being torn up as I write this. The
good news is that you can do twice as much to stop the damage as you
think you can.

Right now, construction crews are still blasting in Organ Pipe
Cactus National Monument, a UNESCO biosphere reserve that is also home
to cultural sites and grounds sacred to the Tohono O'odham
people.

In addition, the 2 million acres that were, until two years ago,
part of Grand Staircase-Escalante and Bears Ears National Monuments
are about to be sold to the highest bidder and drilled and mined for
short-term profit. And, some parcels of land within 10 miles of Bears
Ears' current boundaries and within sight of Arches and
Canyonlands National Parks are also up for grabs.

Funding for the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) is once
again up in the air. Without it, public lands projects across the
country, from national parks to community parks, will be at risk.

John,
it is imperative that we stop this disgraceful destruction of our
beloved public lands. And when I say "we," I mean The
Trust for Public Land and all our members ... in other words, you
and me.

Fortunately, a generous friend of The Trust for Public Land has
offered to match every gift we receive by May 15, up to a total of
$250,000. That's right - the donation you make today will be doubled.

Your donation will do twice as much to support our Federal
Affairs team as they convince Congress to do the right thing -
fully fund the LWCF and protect our wilderness areas and recreation
sites from reckless exploitation.

Believe me, this is achievable. Senators and representatives on
both sides of the aisle agree with our goals and are willing to help
us. But given the current situation, it's going to take even
more time and even more effort to get anything done in Washington.

That's why we need your help, John. We're counting on you
to make a special, tax-deductible contribution in support of our work
in Washington and across the country. Please make your gift of $35 or
whatever you can afford now and let that anonymous patron double it.
