Victory! SHIELD Act Passes the Senate!
In an unprecedented breakthrough, the SHIELD Act passed in the Senate on July 10th. This is the farthest a federal bill combatting image-sexual abuse has ever gotten in American history!
The SHIELD Act addresses image-based sexual abuse in the following ways:
Establishes a criminal offense to knowingly distribute, or threaten to distribute sexually explicit content of an individual without their consent Establishes a criminal offense for distributing a visual depiction of a nude minor with the intent to abuse, humiliate, harass, or degrade the minor, or to arouse any person. Subjects a violator to a fine, prison term of five years, or both.
The next step is for the SHIELD Act to be considered by the House! |
Roblox: A Tool for Sexual Predators, A Threat for Childrens’ Safety
S.U. started playing Roblox when she was 9 or 10. She was manipulated, exploited, abused, and by 11 years old she had attempted suicide twice. She's not the only one.
The reality is that Roblox’s child safety measures are grossly insufficient, and the platform acts as a first point of contact between predators and children.
Children 12 and under make up the largest demographic of Roblox’s users. But the company is doing an astonishingly poor job of protecting their young userbase. This is why we have added Roblox to our Dirty Dozen List for the second year in a row, and are inviting you to join us in urging them to change! |

The Children of CDA 230: Child Sexual Abuse Victim Denied Justice Against Snapchat
A 15-year-old boy in Texas was sexually abused by his teacher, who used Snapchat to groom him and send him sexually explicit content. The abuse was discovered after the boy overdosed on drugs that the teacher allegedly provided. The boy filed a lawsuit accusing Snap of “failing to protect underage users of its social media platform from sexual predators.” But now, like so many other children, he is being denied justice.
The Supreme Court rejected the boy's appeal after lower courts ruled Snapchat was immune from liability under Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act (CDA 230). The blanket immunity that CDA 230 provides to tech companies has destroyed countless children's lives. It's time we stood up for the #ChildrenOfCDA230.
