John,
Imagine sharing a tap for water with 1,300 other people.
Now, imagine living alongside 20,000 other families in crammed, unsanitary conditions. In makeshift shelters and under flimsy tents.
This is the terrible reality for refugees at Moria reception center in Lesbos, Greece.
Refugees like Rahmatullah, a 24-year-old from Afghanistan, have to wait in line for hours for each meal. Living with many others in makeshift homes, which are bursting at the seams, making social distancing impossible.
Donate now to help us support people like Rahmatullah and refugees worldwide. »
Hassan told us:
"Here, [social distancing] is impossible, because we have food lines, we have bathroom lines and shower lines… if we don't stay in the food line, we’re going to die from being hungry. We cannot not go to take a shower or bathe because these are necessary things in life, and we have to stay in line because of them."
In the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, fear and anxiety is rippling across camps like Moria, as families worry about the elderly and those with underlying conditions.
If you give now, the IRC can deliver vital aid to help vulnerable refugees of all ages. These funds will provide hand-washing stations, emergency protective gear and public health information — while continuing our life-saving programs in 40+ countries worldwide. So are you in, John?

The majority of people at Moria have already fled for their lives, barely escaping danger in Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan.
This includes mothers like Hayat, whose daughter spent 6 months in the hospital after a chemical attack in Syria. Hayat gently ran her fingers through her daughter's hair as she told us:
"I want to take these memories from my daughters' heads. I don't want them to remember."
We can't take away the frightening memories refugee children already have, but we can give them hope for the future. Please give what you can today.
With deep gratitude,
Emily Martin
