Friend,

Last weekend, I had the distinct honor of joining a naturalization ceremony at the Field of Dreams, where 35 new Americans took their oath of citizenship after putting in the work to legally become American citizens.

I was humbled to hear their stories and see their excitement to embrace their new lives as American citizens, including the right to vote in U.S. elections.

Meanwhile, under Joe Biden, millions of illegal immigrants have crossed our Southern Border and are now in our communities. This is not only an affront to all those who have followed our laws and come here legally, but poses a threat to election integrity.

In many states, illegal immigrants are eligible to apply for driver’s licenses, providing ample opportunities to illegally register to vote in federal elections. In some jurisdictions, like Washington, D.C., non-citizens are eligible to vote in local elections. We can’t let this happen nationwide.

That's why I voted for the Safeguarding American Voter Eligibility Act, legislation that will ensure illegal immigrants cannot vote in federal elections. This bill:

  • Require state election officials to inquire about citizenship before providing voter registration forms.
  • Require an individual to provide proof of citizenship in order to register to vote in federal elections.
  • Provide states with access to federal agency databases so they can remove noncitizens from voter rolls and confirm citizenship for individuals lacking proof of citizenship.

I will continue working to safeguard elections. Read on for more information on my work for you in Washington and in Iowa!

Best,

Victoria Humiston

2024 Congressional Art Competition Winner for IA-02

It was great to have the winner of the Congressional Art Competition, Victoria Humiston, in DC! Her artwork, One Acre, is now hanging in the U.S. Capitol.

National Child Care Innovation Summit

It was great to join the first National Child Care Innovation Summit hosted by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. I will continue working across the aisle to expand child care options that fit real family schedules and ensure parents don't have to choose between staying in the workforce and raising their children.

AARP Iowa

I enjoyed sitting down with advocates from AARP Iowa to discuss my work for seniors in the district and my commitment to protecting Social Security and Medicare benefits.

Lola's Hot Sauce

Lola’s Hot Sauce is an Iowa success story and is now sold at Walmart stores nationwide. It was great to meet with Taufeek Shah to hear about how they turned a family hot sauce recipe into a growing business!
