Hi John,

Sharks are fascinating, aren't they? These majestic creatures not only add beauty to our oceans but they're also nature's helping hand, vital for sustaining our marine ecosystems. Ever wondered how coral reefs and seagrass meadows remain so vibrant? It's thanks to sharks – their presence helps balance the grazing species.

As Shark Awareness Day approaches on July 14, we thought you'd be inspired to learn more about these amazing creatures. Join us in celebrating their vital role in our ecosystems by checking out our newest video.

Despite their vital role in supporting the health of our oceans, shark populations have been decimated worldwide by overfishing, bycatch, and demand for their parts.
At WildAid, reducing consumer demand for wildlife products is at the heart of our mission. We work with local partners in countries with high demand for shark products to raise awareness about the negative impacts of shark consumption, drive behavior change, and strengthen laws protecting sharks.

In the Galapagos, we helped our local partners develop a comprehensive Marine Protection System Plan for the 51,000-square-mile Galapagos Marine Reserve. As a result, the Galapagos now boasts the densest shark population in the world.

Thank you for supporting sharks and healthy marine ecosystems!

Yours for the wild,

Meaghan Brosnan
