Dear MoveOn member,

Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez just announced articles of
impeachment against Supreme Court Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel
Alito, over the ways they have abused their power on the Supreme Court in
order to protect and advance their own personal interests.^1 After
corruption has taken over the court and more and more reports have
revealed ethic violations by both Justice Thomas and Justice Alito—this
couldn't be more timely. Now that the articles of impeachment have been
introduced, Congress needs to move swiftly to launch an impeachment
investigation and begin impeachment proceedings.

Justice Alito continued to rule in cases involving Donald Trump and the
January 6 insurrection even after reports came out about the waving of
insurrectionist-affiliated flags outside his homes. Just weeks after the
existence of the first flag was exposed, news broke of a second
insurrectionist flag being waved.^2

Justice Alito must be held accountable. Members of Congress must launch an
impeachment investigation and impeachment proceedings NOW.

Justices Alito and Thomas both have a serious problem of not disclosing
expensive gifts they receive from their rich right-wing friends. In 2008,
Justice Alito took a luxury fishing trip with GOP billionaire and
megadonor Paul Singer. Reports revealed that he traveled on Singer's
private jet and that the lodge they stayed at cost up to $1,000 a day.^3

Following the trip, Singer's hedge fund had cases go before the Supreme
Court up to 10 times, and Justice Alito didn't recuse himself from a
single one. Justice Alito claimed that he wasn’t aware of Singer's ties to
the hedge fund, that they didn’t discuss Singer’s "business"—and that
federal gift disclosure requirements didn't include "accommodations and
transportation for social events."^4

[ [link removed] ]Justice Alito has gotten away with ethics violations for far too
long—from failure to disclose that luxurious trip to his refusal to recuse
himself from cases in which he has clear conflicts of interest. Justice
Alito must be held accountable for his actions. Sign the petition here.

Justices on the nation's highest court shouldn't be accepting gifts from
right-wing billionaires or publicly expressing their political views. But
it's clear that both Justice Alito and Justice Thomas have been pushing
their right-wing agenda on the court, all while being privately bankrolled
by billionaires.

Decisions made by the court are impacting everyday Americans, whose rights
are being put aside in favor of the interests of right-wing billionaires
and corporations. These are the same justices who ruled to overturn Roe v.
Wade, ruled on the side of insurrectionists, and determined that Donald
Trump is above the law and has presidential immunity.^5,6,7
