Hello John,
Two innocent elephants - Zinda (7) and Avani (8) - have tragically died at Dublin Zoo. And now 17-year old Asha is sadly at risk of facing the same fate ([link removed]) after also testing positive for the Elephant Endotheliotropic Herpesvirus (EEHV).
This devastating virus is a widespread killer of elephants in captivity, as their immune systems are much more compromised than that of their wild relatives who are known to have more resistance to it. In zoos the mortality rate can be as high as 85%, due to the stress and suffering they face in such confined and unnatural conditions.
Elephants do not belong in zoos. The evidence is overwhelming. Yet despite the government saying they are looking into banning elephants ([link removed]) in zoos, still nothing has changed!
Until DEFRA takes action, we must keep fighting for their freedom. Now there is a new government in place, it has never been more important to push forward with this vital work.
So please, take action! You can send DEFRA an email by following this link:

TAKE ACTION FOR ELEPHANTS ([link removed])
All animals suffer greatly in zoos. Elephants live shorter lives, suffer from physical illnesses due to the inappropriate enclosures they are forced to live in, suffer with stereotypic behaviour due to the lack of space, and are ripped apart from their families ([link removed]) as they are transferred between zoos for breeding or behavioural reasons.
This is simply unacceptable, and we must fight until all elephants in zoos are either released to the wild where possible, or transferred to accredited sanctuaries to live in peace.
Here are other ways you can help elephants this summer:
* Share the action ([link removed]) on social media or with friends and family to help spread awareness
* Donate ([link removed]) to help raise vital funds for our campaign against zoos
* Join us as a Freedom Champion ([link removed]) to play a critical role in stopping cruelty
* Adopt an Elephant ([link removed]) to fuel the fight for their freedom.
All animals suffer in zoos and we will not stop until all are free! Together, we can create change!

It is tragically too late to save Zinda or Avani. But together we can fight for the freedom of all who still suffer at the hands of the zoo industry.
