Biden Trumpets Small Donors as Rich Backers Retreat (The New York Times)
In a nationally broadcast interview on Monday, President Biden pushed back on rich Democrats who want him to end his re-election campaign, saying, “I don’t care what the millionaires think.” Small donors, he made clear, were coming through for him. Mr. Biden has raised more money from small donors than Mr. Trump so far this cycle, according to an analysis by the nonpartisan watchdog site OpenSecrets. That is a reversal from their 2020 face-off.

Many of the nation’s most powerful unions confirm they are continuing to back President Biden, despite faltering support among some top Democrats, pointing to his willingness to support their priorities on almost every issue during his first term. Labor unions continue to be among Biden’s biggest donors, according to OpenSecrets, a Washington nonprofit that tracks campaign finance and lobbying data.
First Biden hosts donors at the White House. Then they give massive checks. (Politico)
Shortly before Christmas, four billionaires with a long history of writing checks to Democrats were escorted into the White House where the group heard directly from President Joe Biden about his second-term agenda and were able to ask him questions about his campaign and policy. “Certainly the optics on these things are very bad,” said Brendan Glavin, deputy research director at OpenSecrets, a nonprofit that tracks money in politics. “We’re talking about people giving nearly a million dollars and getting access to the White House. That’s the type of thing that really feeds and fuels citizens’ loss of faith in the system when they hear about things like this.”
