FRIDAY, JULY 12, 2024
World leaders flocked to Washington this week to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the single greatest political and military alliance in human history: NATO.
But Heads of State are also on the lookout, much like you and me, for critical signs of life in the Biden campaign. Sure, Biden can read from a script. But like we saw last night, his answers to basic questions are incoherent. The presidency isn’t solely a role of presentation, but of actual governance and policy. It’s going to be extremely consequential to hear what is said about Biden’s countenance and cognitive abilities in private meetings with NATO leaders.
It’s no surprise to Biden’s counterparts abroad that he’s got a problem, they’ve dealt with him for three years. I think what they are looking to judge is how he handles this particularly sensitive time.
Bottomline is this: it cannot be a good day for Biden if people are still talking about his mental acuity.
I asked you this a couple months ago, but I want to know if you’ve changed your answer since then.

Who do you plan to vote for in November? You can submit your answer here and I’ll take a look this weekend.
Thanks and have a safe weekend,
Ambassador John Bolton
Driving the Week:NATO was in town. Heads of State had much to discuss and negotiations were in full swing. I joined NewsNation to breakdown the kinds of questions world leaders were looking to answer this week:

I was on CNN’s The Source late last night to discuss Biden’s “Big Boy” press conference. In my view, this is just more proof that Biden is unfit to do the job. His presidency ended yesterday. His answers to basic questions about our standing in the world were incoherent.

On EWTN, I discussed the remarkable similarities between the close coordination of modern day China and Russia and their relationship during the Cold War. Our adversaries seem to be teaming up, which poses a potential threat to America and our allies.

Critical Context: Our enemies are aligning themselves together. The main axis of power is between Russia and China, with satellite countries like Iran, Cuba, and North Korea working in cooperation. We know these countries need each other to survive individually. The question is, what are they willing to achieve together?
My Final Word: Joe Biden has failed the U.S. by completely ignoring this growing team of adversaries. Russia and China have been taunting us in Cuba, and he does nothing. Iran is attacking our ally Israel, with the end game of eliminating the U.S. and he does nothing. Joe Biden is not good for our national security.

I am very appreciative to have met with Taiwanese Ambassador to the U.S. Alexander Yui in Washington.

Critical Context: Beijing is clearly nervous about the idea of an independent Taiwan. As tensions with China grow, we need to make sure that our friends are confident in our allyship. We should strive to recognize Taiwan’s sovereignty and support its right to self-determination whenever we can.
My Final Word: Joe Biden is endlessly weak on China. China's position on Taiwan has been made abundantly clear: They will take it. Biden would rather chit chat with our adversaries instead of growing a backbone and doing what is necessary to signal to China what our response would be if they invade Taiwan.
