Since you are someone who has been there to support me every step of the way, I want you to know that I released a public statement earlier today thanking President Joe Biden for his service and dedication to our country, and also asking that he pass the torch.
This was an incredibly difficult and painful decision to make because I have deep appreciation and love for Joe Biden. But the stakes couldn’t be higher in this election. Donald Trump is a grave threat to the future of our country, and we must be in the strongest position to defeat him once again and build upon Joe Biden’s historic accomplishments.
Please know that I understand how hard the last couple of weeks have been for all of us and that we might not agree on the best path forward, but I know that no matter who our nominee is, we will be united in supporting them and defeating Trump.
I want to share my full statement with you. I hope you’ll take a moment to read it:
President Biden is a good man who has served this country faithfully and admirably over his decades of service. I had the privilege of being an organizer on his 2008 campaign, and he is a big reason I went down the path of public service myself. I have deep admiration and love for Joe Biden and all he has done for our country, which is why this decision is so painful, but my son and my constituents can't suffer the consequences of inaction at this critical moment.
Joe Biden saved our country once, and I'm joining the growing number of people in my district and across the country to ask him to do it again. Please pass the torch to one of our many capable Democratic leaders so we have the best chance to defeat Donald Trump, who is the greatest threat to the foundation of this country that we have ever faced.
I want to thank President Biden from the bottom of my heart and on behalf of every resident of Colorado's 7th Congressional District. You have done so much for our country, and I know you will continue to do what's right for our future.
Thanks for taking the time to read this and for all you do to step up in the ways you can to fight for the future our kids deserve. This is one of the most consequential times in the history of our nation and I look forward to continuing to work alongside you again.
