Dear Colleague,

The latest issue ([link removed]) of the Clearinghouse’s quarterly research digest provides abstracts of articles from the peer-reviewed literature on male circumcision, with a focus on voluntary medical male circumcision (VMMC) for HIV prevention. This issue covers articles published from 1 January to 31 March 2020.

Links are provided to the full text of articles that are open access. For additional information on VMMC, search the Clearinghouse’s Resource Library ([link removed]) .

Featured Articles

A systematic review and meta-analysis ([link removed]) concluded that carefully selected economic compensation interventions may be a useful targeted strategy to enhance VMMC coverage.

A systematic review ([link removed]) found that innovations in service delivery can increase VMMC uptake, but evidence on the impact of improving access and acceptability is limited.

A modelling study ([link removed](19)30436-9/fulltext) of the impact of scaling up antiretroviral treatment in eSwatini suggests that even with the most aggressive treatment campaigns, expanded VMMC and other preventive measures would be necessary to end the HIV epidemic in high-burden settings.
Other articles featured in the digest address perceptions of VMMC's impact on sexual functioning, satisfaction, and risk behaviour in Botswana; post-VMMC sexual risk behaviour among men in Malawi; the health hazards associated with traditional male circumcision in South Africa; and service referrals by peer educators in a linked VMMC–adolescent sexual and reproductive health programme in Zimbabwe.

Best regards,

Clearinghouse Webmaster
