Hung Cao — the self-described MAGA supporter who recently won the GOP nomination for U.S. Senate in Virginia — has some explaining to do. 

In an interview, he was asked about his position on health care policy. Here’s what he said:

Why would he say that?! That’s quite literally exactly what would happen and what MANY families fear from a GOP determined to take away their health care access. 

Cao has openly said he wants to rip health care away from the 400,000 Virginians who signed up for coverage through the Affordable Care Act — to say nothing of the 20 million Americans who signed up just last year. And, over 600,000 Virginians are enrolled in Medicaid expansion coverage made possible because of the ACA. 

It’s clear Cao doesn’t realize (or worse, doesn’t care!) how many Virginians rely on the ACA’s protections to stay alive and healthy. 

Unlike Cao, Tim Kaine has fought tooth and nail to protect and strengthen the Affordable Care Act. He even introduced legislation to create a low-cost public option that would allow Americans to choose between the existing private insurance plans and a public one.

Here’s the problem: Recent polling shows that Virginia is in play in November, and Donald Trump and other national Republicans have promised to spend huge sums to flip us red.
