Hey there — I need to explain something really quick.

Recently the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) announced they’re spending a few million to flood voters in Phoenix with ads attacking Senate Democrats and our state party. If you don’t need to hear anything else, pitch in $10 to help our team respond. [[link removed]]

Here’s what’s happening: this cycle is set to be one of the most expensive elections on record, up and down the ticket.

On both sides of the ballot, campaign teams are looking to maximize their dollar in order to reach the most voters. A campaign finance loophole allows organizations like the NRSC to help candidates pay for things like TV ads if that ad supports (or attacks) both a candidate and a political party.

“A second crucial piece is a heavy reliance on joint TV ad buys between the campaign arm and the candidates. Campaign finance law allows them to place a large ad buy together — and, crucially, pay the cheaper rate offered only to candidates — by making a “hybrid ad” that supports both a candidate and a political party. For example, such an ad in [Arizona] would need to attack both Democratic [Candidate Ruben Gallego] and the Democratic Party as a whole. The ads can be awkward to deploy effectively, but they allow for cheaper ads of which the NRSC only pays a portion.”

We can all but guarantee that the attacks are on their way. Will you pitch in to help our grassroots team fight back? [[link removed]]
