Friends,
Home to seven of Michigan's 12 federally recognized tribes, MI01 is surrounded by three Great Lakes, and it's critically important for your candidate to have the support of our party's Native community.
For my environmental policy, I adopted the "Seven Generations" philosophy. This Indigenous outlook says the decisions we make today should consider the impact they will leave on the next seven generations.
I join our tribes' long-term commitments to protecting land, sky, and water.
Throughout the campaign, I've been honored to sit on the Grandfather Drum and connect with elders about how a Congressman can help revitalize our Native communities and respect Indigenous ways of living.
It involves honoring treaties, self-determination, tribal sovereignty, and acknowledging our tribes' historical, traditional, and contemporary contributions to the Nation.
For the first part of my career, I served with the Indian Health Service in Navajo Nation. It was one of the greatest honors of my life. Today, I acknowledge Michigan's First District occupies the ancestral, traditional, and contemporary homeland of the Three Fires Confederacy, the Potawatomi, Odawa, and the Ojibwe.
It means a lot to me to have the support of the Anishinabeek Caucus. Together, united, we can help all citizens in Michigan's First District thrive.
Chi-Miigwech.
