A Message from Congresswoman Sherrill

Dear Friends,

It has been a frustrating few weeks of train delays for far too many New Jersey commuters. I’ve heard directly from so many of you about missing your kids' sports games, not making it home for dinner, missing meetings, and being left stranded in the middle of Penn Station on a hot summer afternoon.

I commuted on NJ TRANSIT in and out of New York City for years, and my husband continues to do so. I know just how disruptive these delays are to our daily lives. New Jersey families deserve better – so I’m taking action.

Last month, I joined forces with Rep. Rob Menendez to lead all eleven of our New Jersey colleagues in demanding answers from Amtrak. We wrote directly to Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg demanding that he launch an investigation into the significant Amtrak disruptions along the Northeast Corridor that have caused thousands of hours of delays for NJ TRANSIT commuters and New Jersey families.

I am also urging the Department of Transportation to use federal funding, including programs I helped secure through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, to update and modernize our rail infrastructure, and ensure that Amtrak is better communicating with NJ TRANSIT when delays do occur.

I will continue to call on NJ TRANSIT to pause their fare hikes until they have made these critical improvements. To put it simply, New Jerseyans shouldn’t be paying more for another “Summer of Hell”.

We have a lot of work to do to modernize our rail infrastructure, reduce delays, and make sure that the Garden State has a public transportation system that works for all. Know that you can count on me to lead that charge every step of the way.

Make sure to follow my Instagram, Facebook, Threads, and Twitter accounts to stay up-to-date with my work to hold Amtrak accountable and improve NJ TRANSIT services.

Sincerely,
