Hurricane Beryl has recently caused massive disruption and damage throughout Texas, knocking out power for millions during some of the hottest times of the year.
In the storm system's wake, devastating floods and threats of severe tornadoes have followed, from Texas through the Midwest and even affecting parts of Vermont.
As an active member of the American Red Cross for over 38 years, it is heartbreaking to see the destruction of this powerful storm—but it is heartwarming to know that thousands of volunteers and courageous first responders will be answering the urgent call to help people in need. And they deserve nothing short of our full support.
This year, the campaign is keeping me from doing what I otherwise would have done: lacing up my boots and spending time with my fellow American Red Cross volunteers directly helping those who have lost homes, pets, cars and personal property, and in some truly tragic cases, loved ones or family members.
But that's why I wanted to take a moment to use my platform to highlight the work that the American Red Cross will be doing for victims of Hurricane Beryl. They are there, rebuilding lives and picking up the pieces after unthinkable disasters like this one.
