NATO is the North American Treaty Organization, a voluntary security alliance of 30 nations across North America and Europe. This year marks 75 years since its creation.

After the most costly conflict in the history of the world, the United States and our allies joined together in a mutual agreement aimed at preventing future wars in Europe.

It is the most successful alliance in the history of the modern world, and the key is Article 5: an attack against one is an attack against all. That ironclad agreement has ensured safety and prosperity for the United States and our allies for the last 75 years.

But apparently, Trump doesn’t even know what NATO is. Yes, he said that himself. He also said that he would have the United States limit intelligence sharing with our NATO allies. Trump invited Putin to do “whatever the hell he wants” to those allies. And around the same time that President Biden was rallying our NATO allies and leading an hour long press conference, Trump met Putin’s ally, Hungarian dictator Viktor Orban, at Mar-a-Lago.

Let’s be clear: Trump is pro-Putin and anti-NATO. Trump undermining NATO does not make us safer — it invites war. And emboldening Putin at the cost of NATO, encouraging his expansionist goals at re-establishing the Soviet bloc, will cause World War III.
