Trump caught cheering extremist Project 2025 manifesto he says he knows nothing about
The tape never lies. On Thursday, MSNBC dug up a clip from 2022 of the MAGA cult leader expressing some pretty convincing familiarity with the people behind Project 2025 — 140 of whom once worked for his campaign or administration, it should be noted. Fumbling his way through praise for the Heritage Foundation, Trump added, "They're going to lay the groundwork and detail plans for exactly what our movement will do and what your movement will do, when the American people give us a colossal mandate to save America, and that’s coming." Hmmm, yeah. He's definitely talking about Project 2025. [RETWEET THAT!]

VIDEO OF THE DAY: Top Republican issues bad news for Trump on national TV
Utah Gov. Spencer Cox admitted on CNN he will not vote for Donald Trump, joining Vermont Gov. Phil Scott, Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb, Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp, and SCORES of former Trump administration officials who have refused to back the convicted felon in 2024. Of 44 former Cabinet members, just FOUR have publicly endorsed Trump. These are the people who know him best, who worked closely with him and alongside him. If they won't vote for Donald Trump, that's really, really saying something.

SCOTUS extremism hits terrifying new heights
Brennan Center for Justice: Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito’s insurrection flag scandal is the last straw. It is long past time we imposed term limits on the Supreme Court and put an end to the complete lack of accountability that these justices currently enjoy. The Brennan Center for Justice is spearheading the movement to finally put an end to the tyranny of the right-wing, anti-democracy extremists on the court — will you chip in to support their work?
House Republican says Congress needs to "work our way back to where America was in the 1960s"
Wisconsin Republican and man wondering why he can't just go around saying the n-word like he used to Glenn Grothman lamented the progress America has made over the past 60 years and publicly pined for the United States to return to a more, uh, halcyon era before women's rights and civil rights were catapulted into the mainstream by LBJ's Great Society programs. Sure, women were subjected to rampant sexism, misogyny, and unchecked abuse and segregation rendered Black, Brown, and Asian Americans second-class citizens, but otherwise, for white folks like Grothman, America apparently was great — and can be great again if we just muster the resolve to reverse course on a half-century of progress!

President Biden defiant at NATO press conference as he battles calls to stand aside
In a critical press conference meant to make or break his presidential campaign, Joe Biden spiritedly defended his foreign policy record even as he faced a barrage of questions on his mental fitness and, in another gaffe, mistakenly referred to Kamala Harris as "Vice President Trump." Biden offered extensive remarks on thorny foreign policy issues including competition with China and the Israel-Hamas war, in which he said he had warned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu away from an occupation of the Gaza Strip. Biden, who is running to be president until January 2029, fielded an equal number of questions during the press conference on his mental fitness, an issue that has loomed over his campaign since a faltering debate performance against Donald Trump that he called "that dumb mistake." The president insisted he would stay in the race despite calls from some in his party to drop out and to allow another figure, including Harris, run in the November election.

Flood of Democrats set to call for Biden to stand down after "big boy" press conference
The trickle of Democratic lawmakers who have publicly called for President Joe Biden to abandon his re-election bid is expected to grow into a torrent over the next two days, four Democratic sources with knowledge of the situation told CBS News on Thursday night. No exact number was immediately confirmed, but the network reported that “dozens” of legislators are expected to come out against the president. Two sources told CBS that the planning is coordinated, with some of the statements pre-written. One insider added that the weekend could be “brutal” for Biden, and that it could be impossible for him to continue as the party’s presumptive nominee as early as next week. It remains unclear, as Biden hosted a bumpy “big boy press conference” with reporters, how many Democratic lawmakers it would take to get him to drop out — if any such number exists. As of Thursday evening, more than a dozen House Democrats and one senator had called for Biden to stand aside.
Teamsters boss faces backlash over "unconscionable" GOP convention speech
Teamsters International President Sean O’Brien has been accused by senior members of the union of disgracing it by agreeing to an unprecedented appearance at next week’s Republican National Convention, where the GOP will anoint convicted felon, serial fraudster, and avowed union-buster Donald Trump its undisputed party leader. The Teamsters is one of the largest labor unions in the US, with 1.3 million members. While other large labor unions and the largest coalition of labor unions, the AFL-CIO, have already endorsed President Biden, the Teamsters for some reason has yet to make an endorsement in the 2024 presidential election. John Palmer, vice-president at large at Teamsters, called O'Brien's scheduled appearance "unconscionable" and accused him of lending support to the "most anti-union party and president" in a generation. What a world.

Trump asks judge to toss out guilty verdict in hush money case after Supreme Court decision
The disgraced ex-president has asked state Judge Juan Merchan to toss out his criminal conviction on 34 felony charges in New York, pointing to the Supreme Court’s atrocious immunity decision that outlines when a former president must be shielded from prosecution. While the effort to toss out the jury’s verdict likely faces an uphill battle with Merchan, the last-ditch bid already succeeded in getting Trump’s sentencing date postponed. If you feel like we're slow-walking into a dictatorship, you aren't alone.

Ex-ICE official says if Trump wins, US "ain't seen shit yet" when it comes to deportations
Former Trump administration official and — surprise! — a co-author of the Project 2025 manifesto — Tom Homan outlined what one immigrant rights advocate called the "cruel, dangerous, and destructive" vision that convicted felon Donald Trump had for immigration in the United States. At the National Conservatism Conference in Washington, DC earlier this week, Homan, former acting Immigration and Customs Enforcement director under Trump, confirmed that a victory by the MAGA cult leader would, in fact, usher in a sweeping deportation effort — just like the one described in Project 2025, which Trump totally definitely c'mon really knows nothing about.
