Dear John,
Today we observe Yom HaShoah, Holocaust Remembrance Day.
Although we are unable to gather in person this year, our commitment to that ancient Jewish charge—to remember (zachor), never to forget (lo tishkach)—is in no way diminished, as we carry on the memory of the six million.
Here are three ways you can join AJC in marking this solemn occasion: |
- BEAR WITNESS
There is limited, precious time left to hear survivors’ stories firsthand. Join us today, April 21, at 1:00 PM ET for a special online intergenerational Yom HaShoah commemoration, part of AJC’s Advocacy Anywhere series. We will hear from two survivors—Halina Peabody in the United States and Marian Turski in Poland—in conversation with young AJC staff members. We will also be joined by U.S. Special Envoy for Holocaust Issues Cherrie Daniels and AJC’s Rabbi Andrew Baker. You can register here.
- HONOR THEIR MEMORY
It’s up to us to remember the six million men, women, and children who were murdered in the Holocaust simply for being Jewish. I hope you’ll read—and share—my statement on the importance of remembering our history and the dangers of letting hate go unchecked.
- FIGHT DENIAL AND IGNORANCE WITH EDUCATION
The Holocaust was a cataclysmic event in human history and yet far too many—including in the Arab world—deny that it ever happened or claim that its scope has been exaggerated. Education is essential to ensure that such horrors never happen again.
Yesterday, on the eve of Yom HaShoah, AJC released a new Arabic-language video about the Holocaust. It is the third in our series, ‘An al-Yahud (“About the Jews”), which seeks to increase understanding of the Jewish people in the Arab world and has already reached tens of millions across the Middle East and North Africa. This new video presents basic facts about the Holocaust, as well as the stories of Muslims and Arabs who played an active role during that dark period. It comes three months after AJC accompanied the highest-ranking delegation of Muslim leaders worldwide ever to visit a Nazi death camp, in this case Auschwitz-Birkenau.
You can help us share this important resource more widely. Please take a moment to view an English version of the video here. Then click here to watch and share on Facebook and here to watch and share on Twitter.

This Yom HaShoah, join AJC in paying tribute to those who perished, honoring those who survived, and reaffirming that we will never stay silent in the face of antisemitism and hatred.
Sincerely,
David Harris
