A Cashless Society May Seem Like the Ultimate Convenience…
But what happens when the power goes out?
Imagine this: Walking into the grocery store, perusing the many aisles piled high with food. Grabbing all your favorites off the shelves. Not a care in the world.
You step up to the cashier and realize… you don’t have your wallet! But that’s not a problem for you. With cash apps and, in the near future, digital currency, you won’t need your wallet ever again.
But then? The power goes out. Maybe a big storm has taken out a power line. Or worse, a cyberattack or terrorist attack has destroyed the power grid. What do you do now? Without power, your access to money is cut off.
No matter how much your bank account may say you have, without cash in hand or the electronic means to transfer it, you’re broke. This will be the sob story of thousands, if not millions, of individuals and families.
Without money, how will you survive?
You can’t buy anything—gas, water, not even food. That easy jaunt down to the grocery store will instead be hours of waiting in a bread line begging the government for scraps to feed your family.
People will become desperate. And desperate people do dangerous things. When people can’t pay, grocery stores will be looted within days. Not a morsel will be left for you or anyone else. Even if you had cash... at this point, it won’t help you.
But this doesn’t have to be your fate.
Take the initiative.
As the old saying goes, “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” Those who prepare are setting themselves up for success, no matter what comes next. They will be ready to put food on the table for themselves and their families when the money is gone and the stores are empty.
