Primary Election Update, Project 2025, Veterans for Democracy

Hello Democrats,
Democrats of Indian River had a fantastic time participating in the City of Sebastian's 4th of July Freedom Festival. Proud Democrats marched in the parade and hosted a booth at Riverside Park. Our volunteers engaged with voters from across the county, and one thing is abundantly clear: the truth about Project 2025 ([link removed]) is spreading. Voters are deeply concerned about the direction our country will take if Trump is re-elected this November.
Our local election efforts are in full swing. Today, our texting team is reaching out to thousands of voters to help them sign up to vote by mail. You can make a difference by joining our voter registration team, contributing to our editorial efforts, volunteering as a poll watcher, or joining our texting team. Get involved with the Democrats of Indian River by volunteering here ([link removed]) .
Additionally, donations to support our initiatives are gratefully accepted here ([link removed]) . Together, we can shape a better future for our community and our country.

Senate Candidate Debbie Mucarsel-Powell
Last week, the Debbie Murcarsel-Powell campaign ([link removed]) hosted a Meet & Greet event ([link removed]) with Indian River County Democrat leaders. This was a great opportunity to meet Debbie, who came to the U.S. from South America at a young age, fleeing violence and searching for a better life. The round table discussion covered topics from Debbie's plan to reduce high insurance costs and protect social security and medicare to protecting women's rights and keeping communities safe from gun violence.
This year, voters have the opportunity to retire Senator Rick Scott and flip our Senate seat BLUE. View which candidates will be on the August Democratic Primary ballot HERE ([link removed]) .
Voter Registration
Republicans have used every dirty trick in the book to suppress votes in Florida. From enhancing criminal penalties and fines for those who assist Floridians in registering to vote, to canceling millions of vote-by-mail requests and created extra restrictions on drop boxes, Desantis and his cronies have targeted the tools and methods most critical to engaging voters.
After Florida voters restored voting rights to felons who completed their sentences, Republicans created a modern-day poll tax to keep them from voting. DeSantis also created an elections police force and used it to target people who were mistakenly registered to vote but still owed their poll tax.
Florida Republicans know that they can’t win elections when all voters have equal access to the ballot box, so they shove these voter suppression tactics through a gerrymandered supermajority legislature. Instead of actually addressing the needs of Floridians, theys are silencing voters and passing laws that only benefit themselves and their friends.
Our Voter Registration Team is working to register Democrats across the county and they could use your help. The Voter Registration Team meets every Monday at 11:30 a.m. Please join us this Monday to get plugged into our Indian River voter registration efforts at 2345 14th Avenue Suite 7 in Vero Beach.
Veterans for Biden-Harris
Biden-Harris 2024 has just launched Veterans and Military Families for Biden-Harris, a national organizing program to engage and mobilize millions of veterans and military families across the country.
First Lady Jill Biden kicked off the coalition launch with and event in Florida to highlight the clear contrast voters will face at the ballot box in November between: Joe Biden, who is fighting for our nation’s veterans, and Donald Trump, who only cares about himself and is willing to destroy the democracy that brave American service members put their lives on the line to protect.
As a military father, Joe Biden believes we have a sacred obligation to care for our nation’s service members and their families, and as president, he’s delivered major progress:
* Delivered health care ([link removed]) to more veterans than ever before and secured the most significant expansion of benefits
([link removed]) and services in more than 30 years for veterans impacted by toxic exposures.
* Boosted economic security, achieving a record low veteran unemployment rate, helping veterans obtain affordable housing, and fighting to lower costs for military families.
* Protected veterans’ rights and freedoms, expanding reproductive services through the VA and supporting LGBTQ+ veterans including by ending Trump’s ban on transgender service members in the military.
Meanwhile, Donald Trump repeatedly disrespects our brave men and women in uniform and as president, he failed our nation’s service members. He called those who made the ultimate sacrifice “suckers ([link removed]) ” and “loser
([link removed]) ” and tried to cut ([link removed]) veterans’ services and benefits, while handing out tax giveaways to billionaires and big
corporations.
The truth is, Trump's Project 2025 agenda will reduce veterans’ benefits and replace independent civil servants in the VA with extreme MAGA loyalists. Voters must head the warnings of top military leaders, including all 10 living former Secretaries of Defense, who have warned of Trump’s threat to democracy and rebuked his attempts to overturn the 2020 election.
