Preparing for the 2025 Legislative Session
|
Legislators will soon begin meeting for interim study committee hearings in preparation for the upcoming legislative session and to stay up
to date on important issues affecting Hoosiers.
Why it matters: Interim study committees give legislators the ability to research important topics ahead of the 2025 session like potential methods to reduce or eliminate the homestead property tax, artificial intelligence and student absenteeism.
This year I was reappointed to serve as a member of the Advisory Board for the Indiana Principal Leadership Institute.
I was also assigned to serve as a member of the Interim Study Committee on Employment and Labor, which was not assigned topics to review during the interim.

Meeting with Children at the Summer Learning Lab in Huntington
Mandy Reber does not sit still. Through a great connection with the Boys & Girls Club of Huntington County, she was able to bring their summer learning lab to Huntington. The summer learning lab is providing reading and math instruction for five weeks this summer to over 200 kids, and is funded through the Mind Trust program. A special thanks to the many Huntington County Community School teachers for stepping up this summer
to teach these kids. Wabash County also benefits from this same program through a sponsorship with their local YMCA.

Visit to Maple Heights Behavioral Health
On Monday, I had a great visit with Dick Hamman at Maple Heights Behavioral Health Clinic in Fort Wayne.
Maple Heights supports those who struggle with mental health by designing their programs based on the needs of each individual they serve, helping them work toward better overall health and well-being.
Thank you, Dick, for meeting with me to discuss all of the great work Maple Heights does to support better mental health resources in northeast Indiana.

This includes $4.5 million to Gas City for the Farmington Trace and Gas City Apartments developments.
The program was created by the General Assembly in 2023 to help increase access to housing by awarding funding to offset the costs of infrastructure work needed for new housing developments such as sewer, water, sidewalks and curbs.
