Dear Friend,

I hope you are staying home and safe as well as connected with loved ones during these unprecedented times. North Texas families are always at the forefront of my mind as we navigate the coronavirus pandemic and its impact on our health and our economy.

Many of you have contacted my office with questions about the direct economic impact payments that many North Texans are eligible to receive under the CARES Act, which I helped to pass in March.

Have you received your economic impact payment?

If you haven’t received your payment, here are some helpful tools:

"Get My Payment" Web App

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) launched the "Get My Payment" web app for individuals to track the status of their economic impact payment and for taxpayers to submit their banking direct deposit information to speed up delivery of their payment.

You can access the IRS “Get My Payment” web app here.

If you get an error message the IRS has instructed users to please check back and try again later.

Beware of scams

Unfortunately, scammers are preying on the uncertainty of the times. It is important to know that the IRS will never call, email, text message, or use social media channels to request personal or financial information. The IRS urges taxpayers to be on the lookout for and to report scammers.

Remember:

  • You do not have to pay anything to receive your Economic Impact Payment – no fees, no charges, nothing. Anyone who calls, texts, or emails you asking for money is a scammer.
  • The government will never ask you for your Social Security Number, bank account, or credit card number over the phone, through text, or through email. Anyone who does is a scammer.
  • Be wary of suspicious calls. Do not press any numbers. Scammers are using illegal robocalls to pitch everything from scam COVID-19 treatments to get-rich-quick schemes. The recording might say that pressing a number will let you speak to a live operator or remove you from their call list, but it might lead to more robocalls, instead.

Finally, I have compiled a list of federal resources including information on unemployment, small business loans and tips to stay safe on my website: https://allred.house.gov/coronavirus. My office continues to serve North Texans remotely. Please do not hesitate to give us a call if you need assistance with a federal agency or have questions.

Sincerely,
