Team,
The Cook Political Report — one of the top political forecasting organizations in the country – just downgraded the Michigan Senate race from “Lean Democrat” to a pure “Toss-Up.”
We’ve always known this race would come down to the wire, but this ratings change confirms that this race could go either way on Election Day.
Michigan is, after all, a swing state, with a tendency to… swing. Despite Democrats’ success in previous cycles, Michigan can flip red under the right conditions.
We need to meet this moment with an increase in voter outreach by ramping up our robust field efforts and investing more in TV and digital ads, but that takes resources. So will you chip in $3 or any amount now to keep Michigan blue?
CONTRIBUTE NOWYou may be wondering why a race rating change actually matters, so let us explain:
National Republicans already view Michigan as a key battleground state for both the presidential race and the Senate.
That’s why Donald Trump has been here 6 times in the last 13 months. It’s also why we’ve already seen millions of dollars in outside spending in our race — including new attack ads targeting Elissa just this week.
With this data point, they may hone in on Michigan even further.
To that end, we know that millions more dollars from conservative mega donors and Super PACs are on the way to prop up our eventual opponent — setting up a battle royale here that will not only determine which party controls the Senate, but who wins the White House in November.
The stakes couldn’t be higher, and with just four months until the election, everything we do matters: every ad we air, every voter we talk to, every door we knock, and yes — every dollar we raise.
