They BOTH ruled in the Trump immunity case even though they had glaring conflicts of interest — Thomas’ wife, Ginni Thomas, was involved in January 6 and Alito had a Stop the Steal style flag flying over his house while considering 2020 election cases in the wake of the Capitol insurrection. Now, Trump could be completely let off the hook for his involvement in efforts to overturn the 2020 election — absolute immunity.
Not only did Thomas and Alito have conflicts of interest in the Trump immunity case that has given the American presidency the powers of a dictator, both justices have been caught up in other ethics scandals involving right-wing dark money groups and luxury trips paid for by big money donors.
The list of just Clarence Thomas’ scandals is LONG. That’s why AOC is launching her impeachment effort AND top Democratic Senators Sheldon Whitehouse and Ron Wyden are urging the DOJ to launch a criminal investigation into Thomas’ failure to disclose lavish gifts, luxury travel, and loans from GOP mega-donors.
John Roberts, Brett Kavanaugh, and Amy Coney Barrett have all been embroiled in ethics scandals too. Congress must act against the justices that have just given presidents the right to kill political opponents without punishment (according to Justice Sonia Sotomayor).
At the start of this impeachment fight, we need as much support behind AOC as possible.
