The recent Supreme Court decision to overturn Chevron deference seriously threatens our democracy.

 

For 40 years, this doctrine allowed federal agencies to interpret and enforce laws, ensuring that experts had the final say in regulatory matters.

 

Now, that power has been taken away and given to unelected judges, heavily influenced by special interests.

 

With this decision, regulatory agencies will have less authority to enforce laws that protect our environment, public health, and safety. Literally every regulation for the common good is now at risk of being rolled back.

 

It is open season for special interests, who view the end of Chevron deference as their entry to undo so many of the protections that make our lives safer and healthier.

In times like these, it becomes clear we are being driven to choose between two terrible paths:

 

  • The MAGA GOP, which has fully embraced an extremist, xenophobic agenda…

  • Corporate Democrats like Jimmy Gomez who are beholden to special interests, and refuse to stand up to a judicial branch that has been proven corrupt and influenced time and time again.

 

I suggest we fight for a third option where we work to put tested community leaders back into power who will advocate for us, not corporations, and won't answer judicial tyranny with a shrug and a "what can you do" attitude.

I want to be very clear: the healthcare companies, pharmaceutical giants, and other special interests funding Jimmy Gomez’s campaign are celebrating this decision. 

 

They stand to benefit from a weakened regulatory environment that prioritizes their profits over public welfare.

 

We can’t count on Jimmy to help restore public health and safety when his donors don’t want him to.

 

Here’s what we’re going to do about it:

 

  1. Strengthen Our Grassroots Movement: By relying solely on small-dollar donations from supporters like you, our campaign will always remain independent and truly representative of our community.

  2. Restore Public Health and Safety Protections: We will fight to ensure our regulatory agencies have the power to protect our environment, public health, and safety and keep corporate greed in check.

  3. Hold Elected Officials Accountable: We will push for transparency and accountability, demanding that our leaders resist judicial overreach and prioritize the people's needs. And we will elect leaders who reject corporate PAC money to fight for publicly-funded elections and make sure our representatives answer to the people – not the powerful.
