Hi John,

I am thrilled to share this wonderful news with you: after a year of negotiating and advocating, we have secured a $630 million contract for the Philadelphia Shipyard.

This effort will bring nearly 1,200 jobs back to Southeast Pennsylvania at a time when we need them most. This is a critical investment in Philadelphia’s workforce, and I am proud to have led this effort.

For the first time in almost 25 years, the shipyard will manufacture vessels that will serve national security interests as well as provide humanitarian assistance and disaster relief as necessary worldwide.

Philadelphia has led the country in shipbuilding for more than 200 years, and I am confident that there is not another workforce more capable than ours to take on this work today.

We’ve been pushing this contract forward in lockstep with Philly Shipyard management, local labor leaders, Mayor Kenney, my colleagues in our congressional delegation, and officials at both U.S. Maritime Administration and the Department of Transportation. I am deeply grateful to have them all working alongside me.

Our families and workers are among my top priorities in Congress -- and I will continue advocating to bring good paying jobs to our region.

I couldn’t do this work without your support, so thank you.

More soon,
Mary Gay
