My, my, my, John — I'll never be surprised at the lengths anti-choice extremists will go to limit our reproductive freedom, but this is ridiculous.
Recently, Republicans snuck anti-abortion provisions into a committee's funding bill in an attempt to reverse the Biden Administration's efforts to protect reproductive freedom. These provisions include:
❌ Barring funding for the Department of Justice’s Reproductive Rights Task Force, which 1️⃣ ensures access to Mifepristone, 2️⃣ protects employees who provide reproductive health services that are legal under federal law, and 3️⃣ safeguards the rights of women to access abortion where it is legal
❌ Preventing the Department of Justice from filing lawsuits against states illegally interfering with abortion access
❌ Prohibiting the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) from enforcing federal rules that ensure pregnant women can take time off work to seek medical care, including abortion care
❌ Prohibiting abortion care for women incarcerated in federal correctional institutions.
This bill is a poisonous snake ready to attack our rights, John — which is why I proposed an amendment to strike all of these provisions from said bill.
But this isn't the first or last time we'll hear about this issue — ever since Trump's Supreme Court appointees overturned Roe v. Wade, anti-choice extremists have been increasingly empowered to hold our bodily autonomy hostage.
President Biden and Democrats like myself have been working hard to combat these attacks, but there's a clear and urgent message here: |
Not only do we have to support pro-choice amendments on the Florida ballot this year, we must continue to support pro-choice elected officials. |
Thank you, Congresswoman Lois Frankel |
