Team,
My mission as your mayor is to urgently move Los Angeles in a new direction — especially when it comes to the homelessness crisis. We have much more work ahead of us, but I wanted to make sure you saw the big news about our work so far:
From declaring a state of emergency to accelerating the construction of affordable housing, we are changing how L.A. brings people inside and saves lives.
Together, with locked arms, we’ve brought thousands more people inside last year than the year before. Here are some of the key takeaways from the 2024 Greater Los Angeles Homeless Count:
- Street homelessness is down 10% — the biggest decrease in the last 9 years
- The presence of makeshift shelters built on the side of the street is down 38%
- The number of people moved into shelter rose by 12.7%
- The number of Angelenos who moved into permanent housing is at an all-time high
Our work isn’t done. We must continue to fight for a future where everyone in Los Angeles is brought inside. My promise to you as the mayor of Los Angeles is that I will never stop working to solve the homelessness crisis.
Let’s keep moving L.A. in a new direction.
