Dear John,
It’s been nearly two weeks since the Supreme Court handed down their decision on presidential immunity, and I still feel shaken.
I keep thinking about how Donald Trump — even before the president was given these new powers — rallied a violent mob to storm the U.S. Capitol and pressured state officials to help him “find” the votes he needed to overturn the election.
And then I read Chief Justice John Roberts’ majority opinion dismissing the concerns expressed by Justice Sonia Sotomayor in her dissent as “fearmongering on the basis of extreme hypotheticals.”
Hello?! Extreme hypotheticals?
Did John Roberts not hear the chants of “hang Mike Pence” on January 6? Did he somehow fall asleep during the oral argument when Trump’s lawyer said that the president could assassinate a political rival?
Friends, we all remember how bad the Trump presidency was. But the truth is that Trump’s worst instincts were actually buffered by a few remaining “Never Trump” Republicans in Congress and old-school institutionalists in key administration positions.
This time, there will be nothing to stop Trump from acting like a dictator on Day One. We cannot — we must not — ever let that happen. That’s why Inequality Media Civic Action is doubling down on our biggest election year campaign ever to stop Trump.
Will you donate $5 to help Inequality Media Civic Action sound the alarm and stop Donald Trump?
We’ve spent years building up our social media following and learning the tricks of the trade to make videos go viral on TikTok, Instagram, and other platforms where young voters in particular are increasingly getting their news.
Now we’re taking advantage of the platform we’ve built to push out the most effective scientifically tested messages to persuade voters to get out and vote and reject MAGA.
Step one is to cure the mass amnesia about the Trump years that is affecting so many people right now. Half of all Americans now say that the country was better off when Donald Trump left office than when he came in — a huge jump from what people thought back in 2021. We’ve launched a video series on the “10 things you might have forgotten about the Trump years” to remind voters just how bad it really was.
Step two is to alert people about Project 2025, the radical right-wing second-term agenda drafted by a team including more than 20 former Trump administration officials and campaign staff. Most Americans have never heard of it, and we’ve launched a major public education effort to sound the alarm.
Together we can — and must — stop him. However, as a grassroots-funded organization, we rely on your donations to help make this work possible.
So I’m personally asking you today: Please donate $5 to help Inequality Media Civic Action sound the alarm and defeat Donald Trump.
Thank you for joining with us,
Robert Reich
