Boeing lied and withheld information from airlines and pilots about software changes to their 737 MAX planes. They cut corners and “self-regulated” their way past the FAA. When two Boeing 737 MAXes fell out of the sky, killing everyone on board, they had the arrogance to blame it on the pilots – knowing it was their own fault all along.
For six years these families have been fighting for justice. This week, the DOJ accepted Boeing’s guilty plea.
But Boeing wasn’t charged with killing 346 people or endangering public safety. They were charged with lying to the United States government.
The cost of that lie was a $243M fine – or less than 1% of the profits they’ve made since the first crash in 2018.
As the saying goes, when the punishment for a crime is a fine, that means it’s legal for a fee.
The largest Boeing manufacturing plant in the world is here in my district. Workers at the plant have been bullied and silenced when they tried to do their jobs and address safety concerns in the manufacturing process.
Now the DOJ has turned their backs on these families who only want justice and accountability. It’s disgusting.
These whistleblowers and victims’ families should have the support of our congressman who sits on the committees that regulate Boeing. But they don’t because Rick Larsen is on their payroll. Help me win this seat and give them a representative who won’t take Boeing’s blood money.
